Sahara Force India F1 team is one of the most colourful competitors in Formula One racing. The team’s cars have Indian flag colors emblazoned on them. The team is also colourful in another way; it has one of the fastest pit stop crews among the 11 competing teams. The team joined in 2007. It spent most of the 2008 racing season establishing a racing base.
Enter Adrian Sutil – a driver so full of talent
The talented driver, Adrian Sutil joined Sahara Force India in 2008. He showed a rare brilliance during that year’s Monaco Grand Prix. He was in fourth position in the final stages of the race. Unfortunately for him, Kimi Raikkonen would push his car off the road. Nonetheless, the team finished in 10th position which was a commendable feat.
Changeover from Ferrari to Mercedes power
In 2009, the team switched to a Mercedes-powered engine. The effects of this changeover reflected in drivers’ performance. Soon enough, Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella, the team’s drivers began showing why other teams should not take it for granted. At the Shanghai circuit, Adrian was again a driver to watch. He was in sixth place on a rainy racing day before the wet circuit made him slide and veer of the road.
Fisichella earns team second place in Belgium
The Mercedes-powered VJM02 car kept getting stronger. At the Spa circuit, in the Belgium Grand Prix, Sahara Force India’s Fisichella finished in second position. Raikkonen took the winning slot. Moving forward to Monza, Adrian pushed the car even harder. His efforts paid off when he qualified with the second fastest time. He, however, managed to finish the race in fourth place. That year, the team finished ninth position.
Team gets even better in 2010
By 2010, the team promoted Tonio Liuzzi to a top Sahara Force India driver. Tonio did not have the best of luck that year but he managed to finish the Korean Grand Prix in sixth position. Meanwhile, Adrian Sutil finished fifth in both the Malaysia and Belgium Grand Prix. The team climbed two places to wind up the year in seventh place.
Paul Di Resta, a reserve driver for the team, eventually got a race seat in 2011. Force India also brought in Nico Hulkenberg. In every race that they participated in during that year, Paul and Adrian scooped top points. The team now ranked sixth. Adrian was placed ninth and Paul thirteenth.
